What is Ptosis?

Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid.

Ptosis can:

• Affect one or both eyelids;
• Be inherited;
• Be present at birth;
• Occur later in life.

What are the signs and symptoms of adult Ptosis?

The most common cause of ptosis in adults is the separation of the levator muscle tendon from the eyelid.

This process can occur:

• As a result of aging;
• After cataract surgery or other eye surgery;
• As a result of injury;
• From restriction of the levator, as may happen in the case of an eye tumor.

Adult ptosis my also occur as a complication of other diseases involving the levator muscle or its nerve supply, such as diabetes.

How is adult Ptosis treated?

Dr. Ebroon can provide:
• A comprehensive assessment of your ptosis;
• A discussion of the available treatment methods;
• Information about possible risks and complications

Dr. Ebroon may use blood tests, X-rays, or other tests to determine the cause of the ptosis and plan the best treatment. If treatment is necessary, it is usually surgical. Sometimes a small tuck in the lifting muscle and eyelid can raise the lid sufficiently. More severe ptosis requires reattachment and strengthening of the levator muscle.

What is Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty?

Your eyes are often the first things that people notice about you and are an important aspect of your overall appearance. Young eyelid skin is smooth, but over time the eyelid skin stretches, the fat bulges, and the muscles weaken. The eyebrows may also droop and sag (a condition called brow ptosis). Age, heredity, and sun exposure all contribute to this process.

Loose or baggy lids detract from your overall appearance and make you look tired or older. When the brow drops, it crowds more skin down over the upper lids and exaggerates the hooding and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes, making you look sad, tires or angry. When severe enough, the upper eyelid skin may hang over the lashes and obstruct peripheral vision.

 

Blepharoplasty (Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery)

Surgery to improve the appearance of the eyelids is called Blepharoplasty The goal of blepharoplasty is to give the eyes a more youthful look by removing excess skin and bulging fat from the upper and lower lids. If the sagging skin obstructs peripheral vision, blepharoplasty can eliminate the obstruction and expand the visual field.
Excess skin and fat are removed from the upper lid through an incision hidden in the natural eyelid crease. If the lid is droopy, the muscle that raises the upper lid can by tightened. The incision is then closed with fine sutures.

Fat in the lower lid can be removed or repositioned through an incision hidden on the inner surface of the lid (tranconjunctival blepharoplasty). If there is excessive skin in the lower lid, the incision is made just below the lashes and the excess skin is removed. The incision is then closed with fine sutures.

What is a ASOPRS Surgeon?

HOW DO COSMETIC FILLERS WORK?

Fillers work by softening those deep lines and folds in the face that form with age, like those “parentheses” lines around the mouth. Dr. Ebroon uses nearly every filler, including Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane Silk,Volbella, Kybella, and Radiesse, and prefers the fillers made out of natural molecules already in our skin. He places these fillers in the wrinkles and folds of the face and brings back the volume that has been lost with age, making the face more smooth and youthful.

Some lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes, are created over the years by the constant squeezing of muscles. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are proteins that temporarily relax these muscles. They work exceptionally well for crow’s feet and for the frown lines between the eyebrows.
